KUBO
Pay careful attention to everything you see and hear, no matter how unusual it may seem. And please be warned, if you fidget, if you look away, if you forget any part of what I tell you, even for an instant, then our hero will surely perish. Kubo and the Two Strings
|
Clever, kindhearted Kubo ekes out a humble living, telling stories to the people of his seaside town including Hosato, Hashi and Kamekichi. But his relatively quiet existence is shattered when he accidentally summons a spirit from his past which storms down from the heavens to enforce an age-old vendetta. Now on the run, Kubo joins forces with Monkey and Beetle, and sets out on a thrilling quest to save his family and solve the mystery of his fallen father, the greatest samurai warrior the world has ever known. With the help of his shamisen - a magical musical instrument - Kubo must battle gods and monsters, including the vengeful Moon King and the evil twin Sisters to unlock the secret of his legacy, reunite his family and fulfill his heroic destiny.
Kubo is a twelve year old boy. He's far more mature for his age, providing for his mother and himself. He works diligently, but Kubo also enjoys his chosen profession as story-teller. However, Kubo often struggles with giving his characters a proper ending, only being able to embellish and captivate his audience during the story itself. Kubo isn't entirely sure of himself and can get confused, but even when he falters, he picks himself back up quickly.
Despite his hardships, Kubo is still young and behaves mischievously. He's not above harmless pranks and going against his elders if he's curious or obstinate enough. Kubo takes to rules as well as any child, though he's not foolish enough to risk it during life or death situations. He's no coward either, willing to risk himself to fight for what he believes in. That being said, Kubo isn't particularly loud or strives for attention. He's happy to be in the background. He tends to be a quiet child, happy to grab the quiet, special moments in between that he can treasure. Kubo rarely takes anything for granted. Even a meal between people he cares about can be the most precious treasure. In a short span of time, Kubo has lost his family. Through great strength of character, Kubo was able to overcome these losses by remembering the lessons his parents gave him. To be kind, to remember, to keep his humanity. As such, while Kubo may not cry or express his deeper feelings to others, being human and showing that kindness and humanity to others is something he'll never let go of. Despite everything he has suffered, Kubo can be forgiving. That isn't to say he forgives everything but he is willing to learn and try for other people's sakes, if they listen. Recognizing the humanity now apparent in his grandfather, Kubo was still lost and reluctant, in light of recent events, but gave his grandfather the second chance he felt was necessary.
Kubo has the ability to manipulate paper and cloth using his shamisen. The full extent of his powers haven't been explored but it is even able to reach out to the dead and change the nature of supernatural beings.
